@RSSNGirl It’s all evolution. Women have a very tiny number of possible offspring compared to men. If you had 1 child a year from age 18 to 58, that’s only 40 children. I man could have hundreds of thousands in the same time. Also, pregnancy caries a lot of health risks for women (especially for our cavemen ancestors; Ugha couldn’t run from a sabertooth while in a family way). So, women are generally programmed to be more selective about who they have sex with. Before child support orders, there wasn’t any reason for a man to not have sex with a willing partner. Even if the partner has crappy genes, he’s not losing much, he can just have sex with someone else the same day.

The differences in how we reproduce means that the most fit men will get the majority of the women. Historically a woman is 2-3x as likely as a man to have a child. Most women can find some man willing to take them. The opposite isn’t true. So, men have more incentive to amass wealth and power, as doing so attracts mates and increases their likely hood of reproducing. (A potential partner wants to pass on their genes indefinitely; having fit children is just as important as having affluent children.) More incentive means more effort, which generally leads to better results. Bingo-bango, men have the power.

Moving right along to mistresses…Up until very recently, your kids had a better chance of making it in the world if you got a tiny share of an affluent person than 100% of a peon. 1% of the king’s wealth is more than 100% of a farmer. So, if you want to play the evolution game well, you’ll let the king fuck you every 10th night or so.

And, coming up to modern times…Despite the whole “rich are getting richer, poor are getting poorer” nonsense, the poor are actually a lot more wealthy than 100 or 500 years ago. Kids from poor families go to college all the time these days. Now 1% of your rich guy might not be better than 100% of the poor guy. In some cases it still is, but they’re very rare.

Women are still much more likely than men to reproduce though, thanks to serial monogamy. 30 year old man marries a 25 year old woman, has kids…20 years later when they’re 50 and 45, they divorce. She will likely never remarry, and almost certainly have no more kids. He’ll marry another 25 year old. Now there’s a 30 year old guy with no one to marry because the 50 year old screwed things up for him. No way he’s banging the 45 year old woman.

Which? About the two groups overlapping? I agree, there is overlap there. The main distinction being made is between men who want to get married and those who don’t. I guess I’m focusing on men who want to get married for reasons such as love, starting a family etc. You are focusing on men who get married to ensure regular sex. Obviously, both types exist. What I was questioning was whether the prospect of falling in love was out of the question for CD (and you?). If it’s true that, as you say, he doesn’t like women… then most likely it is. But assuming that even he does not know for sure, if it should occur, would he be able to stay faithful? Would he even care to try? I used to think if you truly loved someone, you wouldn’t cheat. But that was pretty naive and I know now it’s just not that simple. I was just curious to hear his and your stance.
